Younger for Longer.

The new longevity is about to become mainstream.

I’m lucky enough to live in Los Angeles, a city where people come from all over the world to be change-makers, impact the world, and also take care of themselves, stay healthy and young longer too.

I’m also grateful for having friends across all generations, I learn a lot from them every day, and being far from home (France), I choose people I interact with for their positive energy and purpose. Being in my early 50+, I see my younger friends in their 30s obsessed with their biological aging vs. chronological aging.

They are committed to a daily routine: a healthy diet, practicing intermittent fasting (16 hours/8 hours), sleeping 8 hours (significant change vs. my generation in their 30s, always trying in the 2000s to shorten their nights to be more efficient with time!), practicing a sports activity, tracking their health data. They also regularly use cryogenic therapy, infrared, from time to time the floating baths to reconnect with themselves (Fab friends, if you come to L.A. try Pause Studio, an exceptional experience)…and from time to time, Vitamin Therapy: applied and monitored by medical experts, IV drips (directly infuse them full of nourishing vitamins, minerals, and amino acids) to strengthen their immunity for stellar health.

In conversations, most of my favorite biohackers would mention they use targeted supplements: for their hair (here men losing hair, or women after pregnancy recommend Nutrafol), dealing with hormonal changes, and skin health (I recommend Veracity, founded by Allie Egan, https://veracityselfcare.com proud investor), acne and oily prone skin (Codex Labs expanding now to ingestible beauty, founded by iconic Barbara Paldus Ph.D.) and supplements for NAD. We will come back to that.

As an investor in Seed stage (Fab Ventures Fund II https://www.fabcocreationstudio.com) backing founders building conscious consumer brands and sustainable tech platforms, I bet on emerging trends.

I believe biohackers’ behaviors, a niche target, are about to become mainstream.

There is a significant opportunity to extend beyond traditional healthcare, which tends to be reactive, into the more proactive areas of consumer health like biohacking and longevity.

Healthy aging? 20% is genetic, 80% is variable say the scientists,

It depends on your local environment, physical fitness, social engagement, activity & diet…Behavioral modifications, and targeted supplements.

54% of North Americans and 43% of Asians were taking a nutritional supplement (multivitamins, vit D, Omega 3) in 2018.

One estimate puts the global market at $152 bn in 2021, with 9% annual growth expected until 2030.

By 2030, the 50-plus market is projected to swell to 132 million people, spending an average of $108 billion yearly on tech products. (Techcrunch Jan23)

Nearly half of the country’s citizens are in their forties or older. One in five Americans, nearly 80 million, are 65 and over. By 2060, it is anticipated that over 90 million Americans will be 65 or over, including the Millennials. Life expectancies are growing, too. There are already several hundred thousand Americans who are 100 years old or older, which will grow to more than 3 million by 2100.

According to Bradley Schurman, author of The Super Age: Decoding Our Demographic Destiny, we are on the cusp of major shifts impacting how we live, work, and love. While the Boomers will be 76 to 94 years old in 2040, Gen X will be 60 to 75, the Millennials will be 44 to 59 and even the first Gen Z’ers will be in their forties. The whole country will rapidly move into the second half of their lives with expectations to live to be 90 or older. Assuming static birth rates and limits on immigration, this will create profound changes and expectations within society, not just in the United States, but in most advanced, Westernized countries. (Esquire 22)

Dr. Laura Carstensen, (Director of the Stanford University Center for Longevity) explains that a lot is happening in the areas of the microbiome*, parabiosis, and studies around caloric restrictions as we age that may help us live longer and healthier lives.

  • I can’t resist mentioning Doctor Elsa Jungman Ph.D. and founder of HelloBiome https://hellobio.me (Fab Fund I portfolio)

Only 20 percent of our longevity is genetically determined. The rest is what we do, how we live our lives and increasingly the molecules that we take. It’s not the loss of our DNA that causes aging, it’s the problems in reading the information, the epigenetic noise. I believe that aging is a disease. I believe it is treatable. I believe we can treat it within our lifetimes.” David Sinclair (Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Genetics and co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School, author of Lifespan).

If you want to know more feel free to participate to the next longevity conference at Stanford in April https://med.stanford.edu/genetics/events/stanford-applied-longevity-translation-symposium.html hosted by longevity fund: https://www.r42group.com/ in Palo Alto, recommended by my friend TM. Ravi (Hive Data).

THE WILD WEST…

…as Andreessen Horowitz shared in their newsletter in January: “Consumers can dramatically improve their health through drugs, supplements, nootropics, and behavior change. This category is currently the wild west (partially due to lack of FDA regulation), but full of opportunity nonetheless. We expect success in longevity to ultimately combine drug discovery and lifestyle change, so there’s a lot of opportunity in this space. Andreessen Horowitz 2023 Jan.

What does it mean? You’d better choose the right founders, and science-based companies, avoiding more opportunistic people within the space.

There are more and more companies blurring the boundary between beauty and women’s health.

Let’s try to cut the noise and come to what matters, and look at what customers shaping new behaviors.

SO EXCITED TO BACK NOVOS LABS! BE YOUNGER FOR LONGER.

Novos https://novoslabs.com/ has been founded by Chris Mirabile, in New York, NY and is already backed by Health Tech investors (Enke Bashllari https://www.arkitektventures.com/ ).

They’re a longevity platform that enables consumers to learn the latest science about aging, test and improve their biological rate of aging, and slow it down with scientifically formulated and tested, patent-pending formulations.

A longevity supplement should contain many ingredients that simultaneously work on multiple causes of aging, resulting in synergies that are greater than the sum of their parts.

« Our mission at NOVOS is to enable everyone to extend their health span and lifespan, with a vision of contributing more than one billion healthy years to humanity.” Chris Mirabile

NOVOS addresses aging by targeting its biological causes with safe, natural, over-the-counter ingredients that are combined in synergistic formulas; best-in-class biological age tests; and guidance based on the latest scientific research. Assisted by a Scientific Advisory Board of six longevity scientists from Harvard Medical School, MIT and the Salk Institute, and more than a dozen additional scientific minds, NOVOS’ patent-pending formulations have and continue to be tested by 3rd-party academic labs and found to have remarkable effects.

If you didn’t yet did their longevity quiz, try it, it only takes a few minutes https://novoslabs.com/age-test/ and subscribe to their newsletter to educate yourself to healthy behaviors.
